The Surreal Landscapes of Lanzarote

The otherworldly landscapes of Lanzarote were created by volcanic eruptions in the 1700’s and provide breathtaking seascape views.

Join me in a whirlwind adventure from Marrakesh in western Morocco, to Istanbul,Turkey, to Italy’s Amalfi Coast, to the Greek Islands of Santorini and Rhodes, to Malta and to Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands.

Green Lagoon of Lanzarote

Green Lagoon of Lanzarote

Lanzarote, Canary Islands
El Golfo and the Green Lagoon are among the most spectacular and bizarre landscape phenomenons I have ever experienced.  El Golfo is a volcanic crater flooded by seawater.  In the cove,  the sea water has become trapped in the form of a lake and turned a striking acidic green, due to the algae which lives there. The Green Lagoon contrasts with a black pebble beach and wind eroded cliffs and rock formations in the background.

Ghost Ship of Lanzarote

This rusty tanker was marooned off the coast of the Spanish island of Lanzarote. I believe that I heard a whisper . . . "I'm not going anywhere".
